credit freeze

A credit freeze is a security measure that restricts access to your credit report, making it difficult for anyone—such as identity thieves—to open new accounts in your name. When you freeze your credit, lenders and creditors can't view your credit information unless you lift the freeze. This doesn’t affect your credit score or existing accounts. You can typically unfreeze (or "thaw") your credit temporarily or permanently when needed, such as applying for a loan or new credit card. A credit freeze provides added protection against identity theft without impacting your current credit relationships.
