Credible Fear Interview (CFI)

A Credible Fear Interview (CFI) is a process used by immigration authorities in the United States to determine if an individual has a legitimate reason to fear returning to their home country. Often conducted when someone seeks asylum, the interview assesses whether their claims of persecution or danger are credible. A trained officer asks questions about the individual's experiences and fears, and the decision helps establish if they can proceed with their asylum application. A positive outcome allows them to remain in the U.S. while their case is further evaluated.
