CPTED Principles

CPTED, or Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design, involves designing and managing spaces to reduce the opportunity for crime. It uses strategies like natural surveillance (making areas visible), access control (limiting easy entry), and maintenance (upkeeping spaces to signal they are monitored). The goal is to create environments that promote safety by encouraging responsible use, increasing visibility, and fostering community presence, thereby discouraging potential offenders and making people feel secure. Essentially, thoughtful design and upkeep help prevent crime and promote a sense of safety in neighborhoods and public spaces.
