Covenanters' War
The Covenanters' War (1639–1640) was a conflict in Scotland rooted in religious and political tensions. Scottish Presbyterians, known as Covenanters, opposed King Charles I’s efforts to impose Anglican-style worship and royal control over the church. They rebelled to defend their religious freedoms and traditional Presbyterian governance. The war involved clashes between Covenanter forces and royal troops, leading to a brief, turbulent uprising. Ultimately, the Covenanters secured concessions that preserved their church’s independence, influencing the broader struggle for religious and political rights in Britain during the period.
