Covadonga
Covadonga refers to a significant historical site in northern Spain, particularly linked to the early stages of the Spanish Reconquista, the effort to reclaim the Iberian Peninsula from Muslim rule. It is most famous for the Battle of Covadonga in 722 AD, where Christian forces, led by Pelayo, achieved a pivotal victory against Muslim troops. This battle marked the beginning of Christian resistance and the eventual establishment of the Kingdom of Asturias. Covadonga is also home to a shrine and beautiful natural landscapes, making it a popular tourist destination and a symbol of Spanish national identity and heritage.
