courts-martial procedures

A courts-martial is a military legal proceeding used to try members of the armed forces accused of violating military laws. The process begins with a preliminary hearing to determine if there is enough evidence. If so, a trial is conducted before a panel of military officers or a judge, who hear evidence from both sides. The accused has the right to be represented by a lawyer and to present a defense. After presentations, the panel deliberates to reach a verdict of guilty or not guilty. If guilty, they impose appropriate sentences, which can include confinement, fines, or other penalties.
