Court of Session
The Court of Session is Scotland’s supreme civil court, primarily handling serious legal disputes such as property, contracts, and personal rights. It operates at a high level, similar to a court of appeal or a supreme court in other jurisdictions, and hears cases either at first instance or on appeal. The court is divided into an Inner House (appellate jurisdiction) and a Outer House (first instance). Its decisions set important legal precedents, and cases are usually heard by experienced judges known as Senators of the College of Justice.
