Countess Matilda of Flanders (c. 1031–1083) was a prominent noblewoman in medieval Europe, known for her influential role in the court of her husband, Duke William the Conqueror of Normandy. As a powerful figure, she was part of the Norman aristocracy and played a significant role in the events surrounding the Norman Conquest of England in 1066. Matilda was the daughter of Count Baldwin V of Flanders and carried significant political weight through her marriage, helping to strengthen alliances between her family and other noble houses, as well as influencing the governance of England through her descendants.
