Counterpublics
Counterpublics are groups within a society that develop their own shared ideas, values, and communication channels to challenge or resist dominant societal norms and narratives. They serve as spaces for marginalized or dissenting voices to discuss, organize, and express their perspectives outside mainstream public discourse. By doing so, they help foster social change and broaden the range of public debate. Essentially, counterpublics act as alternative forums where diverse groups can voice their experiences and advocate for recognition and equality.
