Counterinsurgency (COIN) is a strategic effort by a government or military to defeat and stabilize areas affected by insurgent groups—organizations that challenge authority through guerrilla tactics, violence, or resistance. It involves a combination of military operations, intelligence gathering, and winning the trust of local populations through development, governance, and addressing grievances. The goal is to reduce insurgent influence and restore stability by not only targeting militants militarily but also building lasting relationships with communities to prevent future unrest.
