Counterclaims
Counterclaims are responses made by a defendant in a legal case, where they argue against the plaintiff’s claims. Essentially, it’s when the person being sued asserts their own claim for which they seek a remedy or compensation, often related to the same issue. For example, if one person sues another for damages, the defendant might counterclaim that they are also owed money or harmed in some way. This allows both sides to present their arguments and claims within the same legal process, helping the court understand the complete dispute before making a decision.
