Council to Aid Jews (Żegota)
The Council to Aid Jews (Żegota) was a clandestine organization in Poland during World War II, established to rescue Jews from the Holocaust. Operating secretly under Nazi occupation, it organized hiding, provisioning, and supporting Jewish individuals and families at great personal risk. Żegota was unique in its formal recognition by the Polish government-in-exile and collaborated with other resistance efforts, exemplifying courageous humanitarian action amidst extreme danger. Its existence highlights the efforts of ordinary citizens to oppose atrocity and save lives during one of history’s darkest periods.
