Council of States

The Council of States, or Rajya Sabha, is one of the two chambers of India's Parliament, representing the states and Union territories. Its role is to review and suggest amendments to legislation passed by the lower house, the Lok Sabha. Members are elected by state legislatures or nominated, based on the Constitution’s provisions. The Council provides regional representation, ensuring that the interests of different states are considered in national decision-making. It functions as a revising chamber, contributing to a balanced legislative process and safeguarding federal principles within India’s governance framework.
