Council Fathers
The Council Fathers were bishops and church leaders who gathered during major meetings called ecumenical councils, such as the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965). They represented the worldwide Catholic Church and worked together to discuss, interpret, and update church teachings, practices, and policies to better address contemporary issues and guide the faithful. Their role was to provide theological insight, help shape the church’s direction, and ensure that decisions reflected the needs of the global Catholic community. Essentially, they were authoritative advisors and decision-makers collaborating to renew and strengthen the Church’s mission.
