Cotton Plantation System
The Cotton Plantation System was an agricultural setup primarily in the southern United States where large farms, called plantations, focused on growing cotton. These plantations relied heavily on enslaved Black people to work the fields, planting, tending, and harvesting cotton to produce raw material for textile industries. The system was deeply tied to racial inequality and economic dependence on slavery. Cotton plantations were usually large-scale operations that contributed significantly to the economy but also perpetuated social and racial disparities.
