Cortical dysplasia

Cortical dysplasia is a brain development disorder where the outer layer of the brain, called the cortex, develops abnormally. This leads to irregularities in brain cell organization and structure, which can interfere with normal brain functions such as movement, sensation, and behavior. It is often associated with epilepsy, as the abnormal brain tissue can cause seizures. The condition varies in severity and can be detected through imaging studies like MRI. Treatment may include medications or surgery to manage seizures and improve quality of life. Cortical dysplasia is a congenital condition, meaning it is present at birth.
