Cornelio Saavedra

Cornelio Saavedra was a prominent Argentine military and political leader during the early 19th century. He played a key role in Argentina's struggle for independence from Spain, especially as President of the Cabildo (town council) of Buenos Aires and later as head of the revolutionary government. Saavedra led efforts to establish local self-governance and was instrumental in organizing resistance against Spanish rule. His leadership was crucial during pivotal moments like the May Revolution of 1810, which marked the beginning of Argentina’s move toward independence.
