core-formed glass

Core-formed glass is a traditional glassmaking technique where a flexible ceramic or metal core is shaped into the desired vessel form. Molten glass is gathered on a rod or blowpipe and then carefully wound around or shaped over the core. Once cooled and hardened, the core is removed, leaving behind a glass object with precise contours. This method allowed artisans to produce detailed and consistent shapes, especially in historical glassware like goblets and bottles, before modern mold techniques became common.
