Copts in ancient Egypt
Copts are the modern Christian descendants of ancient Egyptians, primarily following the Coptic Orthodox Church. In ancient Egypt, after the spread of Christianity in the 1st century CE, many Egyptians embraced the new faith, which gradually replaced the traditional polytheistic religion. Over centuries, Copts developed a distinct religious and cultural identity, preserving much of Egypt's early history and traditions within their church. Today, they are a vital minority in Egypt, maintaining their heritage, language (Coptic), and religious practices amid a predominantly Muslim society.
