Cooperative Threat Reduction Program
The Cooperative Threat Reduction (CTR) Program, also known as the Nunn-Lugar Program, was established after the Cold War to reduce the nuclear threat posed by former Soviet weapons. Its main goal is to secure and dismantle weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear, chemical, and biological arms, as well as to help prevent their proliferation. The program involves collaboration between the United States and several countries, providing funding and expertise to ensure safe handling and destruction of these dangerous materials, thereby enhancing global security and reducing the risk of nuclear terrorism.
