Cooling theory explains how objects, substances, or environments lose heat over time, ultimately reaching thermal equilibrium with their surroundings. When a warm object contacts a cooler environment, heat flows from the object to the surroundings through processes like conduction (direct contact), convection (fluid movement), or radiation (emission of infrared energy). Factors such as temperature difference, surface properties, and airflow influence the rate of cooling. Essentially, cooling occurs because heat naturally moves from warmer to cooler areas, and the process continues until temperatures equalize.
