Convulsant medications

Convulsant medications are drugs that can trigger seizures in some individuals. They are typically used in controlled settings or research to understand seizure activity, or sometimes inadvertently cause seizures as a side effect. These medications affect the brain’s electrical activity, potentially disrupting normal communication between neurons. While some medications are designed to prevent seizures (anticonvulsants), convulsants do the opposite, increasing excitability in the brain. Understanding how they work helps researchers develop better treatments for epilepsy and other neurological conditions involving abnormal brain activity.
