Convention nationale

The Convention Nationale was a key political body during the French Revolution, active from 1792 to 1795. It was formed after the abolition of the monarchy to govern France and as a constituent assembly to draft a new constitution. The Convention was responsible for many revolutionary changes, including the trial and execution of King Louis XVI. It was characterized by intense political debate, shifting alliances, and the Reign of Terror. Ultimately, it played a crucial role in shaping France’s revolutionary path and transitioned into the Directory, which governed France until 1799.
