Control Flight into Terrain (CFIT)
Control Flight Into Terrain (CFIT) occurs when an airworthy aircraft is inadvertently flown into the ground, water, or an obstacle, usually due to pilot error, navigational mistakes, or poor visibility. The aircraft is technically safe, but the crew unintentionally guides it into terrain because they are unaware of their proximity or the terrain's presence. CFIT often results from a lapse in situational awareness, especially during poor weather or complex terrain. It emphasizes the importance of accurate navigation, effective communication, and situational awareness to prevent such accidents.
