Contribution to General Average

Contribution to General Average refers to a maritime principle where all parties involved in a sea voyage share the losses that occur due to intentional sacrifices made to save the ship and cargo. For example, if cargo is thrown overboard to prevent a ship from sinking, the owners of that cargo must compensate the shipowner and other cargo owners for their share of the loss. This ensures fairness, as everyone benefits from the collective effort to save the vessel and remaining cargo, rather than one party bearing the full loss.
