Contribution theory
Contribution theory is a way of understanding how individuals decide whether to participate in a group or collective effort. It suggests people evaluate their potential contribution against the effort involved, expecting that their input will make a meaningful difference. If they believe their contribution is valuable and will be recognized, they are more likely to engage. Conversely, if they feel their efforts won’t have an impact or will go unnoticed, they might hold back. Essentially, individuals weigh the expected benefit of contributing against the costs, influencing overall participation and cooperation within groups.
