Contraction Stress Test (CST)

The Contraction Stress Test (CST) evaluates how well a fetus can handle the stress of uterine contractions. During the test, mild contractions are stimulated, often with medication, while heart patterns of the baby are monitored through ultrasound and a fetal heart monitor. If the baby's heart rate remains stable during contractions, it suggests the baby can tolerate labor. If it shows signs of distress, further evaluation may be needed. CST helps healthcare providers assess fetal well-being and determine the safest timing for delivery, especially in pregnancies at higher risk or close to term.
