Contractile Tissue

Contractile tissue refers to types of tissue in the body that can generate force and change shape to produce movement. The main types are skeletal muscle, which moves bones and enables voluntary actions like walking; cardiac muscle, which makes up the heart and pumps blood continuously; and smooth muscle, found in organs like the stomach and blood vessels, controlling involuntary actions such as digestion and blood flow. These tissues contain specialized cells capable of shortening and lengthening, allowing the body to perform both voluntary and involuntary movements essential for survival and function.
