Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy

Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) is a medical treatment used to support the kidneys when they can't function properly, often in critically ill patients. It slowly filters waste, excess fluid, and toxins from the blood continuously over 24 hours or more. Unlike traditional dialysis, which is usually done a few times a week, CRRT mimics natural kidney activity more closely by providing gentle, ongoing cleanup. This helps stabilize the patient’s condition, balance fluids and electrolytes, and remove harmful substances safely. It's typically performed in intensive care units to give the body time to heal.
