Content scrambling system
The Content Scrambling System (CSS) is a digital rights management technology used to protect DVD movies from unauthorized copying. It encrypts the video and audio data on DVDs so that only licensed players with proper decryption keys can access and play the content. Essentially, CSS acts as a lock-and-key system: the DVD has a digital lock, and licensed players hold the key needed to unlock and display the movie. This helps content creators prevent piracy while allowing legitimate consumers to enjoy their purchased movies on compatible devices.
