Conshelf (underwater habitats)
Conshelf, developed by designer Jacques Rougerie in the 1960s, was an innovative series of underwater habitats aimed at exploring and living beneath the sea. These structures provided a controlled environment for researchers and divers, enabling extended underwater missions for scientific studies, marine exploration, and potentially future underwater living. Designed to withstand high water pressure, Conshelf habitats included living quarters, laboratories, and support systems, demonstrating early efforts to understanding deep-sea environments. Though not widely used today, Conshelf contributed valuable insights into underwater habitat design and the possibilities of human undersea habitation.
