Conrad Gessner (1516-1565) was a Swiss naturalist and scholar, often referred to as the father of modern zoology. He is best known for his work "Historiae Animalium," a comprehensive study of animals that combined observations from nature with classical literature. Gessner cataloged numerous species, providing detailed descriptions and illustrations, which enhanced scientific understanding of biodiversity. His method of systematically documenting knowledge laid the groundwork for future biological sciences. Gessner also contributed to botany and medicine, making him a key figure in the Renaissance's approach to exploring and classifying the natural world.
