Congo Wars
The Congo Wars, spanning from 1996 to 2003, were a complex series of conflicts involving multiple African nations and armed groups in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Rooted in longstanding political instability, ethnic tensions, and control over resources like minerals, the wars led to millions of deaths from violence, disease, and starvation. The first war started when rebel groups and neighboring countries supported different factions vying for power after Mobutu Sese Seko's fall. The second, called the "African World War," expanded these conflicts, making them some of the deadliest since World War II, and significantly destabilized the region.
