Congenital Toxoplasmosis

Congenital toxoplasmosis occurs when a pregnant woman contracts the Toxoplasma gondii parasite and passes it to her baby during pregnancy. This can happen through contaminated food, water, or contact with infected animals, like cats. The infection may cause no symptoms in the mother but can lead to serious health issues for the baby, such as vision problems, hearing loss, or developmental delays. Detection and treatment early in pregnancy can reduce risks. Preventative measures include practicing good hygiene, cooking meat thoroughly, and avoiding exposure to cat feces.
