Congenital Cytomegalovirus (CMV)
Congenital Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is an infection passed from a pregnant woman to her developing baby through the virus of the same name. CMV is common and often causes mild or no symptoms in healthy individuals, but when transmitted during pregnancy, it can lead to health problems for the baby. These may include hearing loss, vision issues, small size, and developmental delays. Most infants with congenital CMV are born healthy, but some may experience long-term effects. Diagnosis is usually made with specific tests, and there are treatments available to manage certain complications.
