Confined Aquatic Disposal

Confined Aquatic Disposal (CAD) is a method used to safely bury dredged sediments—materials removed from the bottom of water bodies like harbors or channels—by placing them in a carefully contained underwater containment area. This method minimizes environmental impact by isolating potential pollutants from the surrounding water, preventing contamination of marine life. The disposal site is designed with barriers to keep the sediments confined, ensuring they stay in place and do not spread. CAD is commonly used in dredging projects to manage sediments containing contaminants while protecting aquatic ecosystems.
