Confederacy (American Civil War)

The Confederacy was a group of 11 southern states that seceded from the United States between 1860 and 1861, primarily to preserve slavery and states' rights. They formed the Confederate States of America and fought against the Union (northern states) during the American Civil War (1861–1865). The Confederacy aimed to maintain their way of life, which depended on slavery, while the Union sought to reunite the country and end slavery. The Confederacy ultimately lost the war, leading to the abolition of slavery and the reunification of the nation.
