Concil of Pisa

The Council of Pisa was a major religious gathering held in 1409 by church leaders aiming to resolve a crisis within the Catholic Church. At the time, there were two rival popes, creating confusion and division among Christians. The council intended to end this schism by choosing a new pope, hoping to restore unity. However, both existing popes refused to step down, and instead, Pisa itself became divided, leading to three competing popes. This worsened the situation until later efforts finally resolved the schism, allowing the Church to reunite under a single pope.
