Complications of Arterial Lines
Arterial lines are tubes placed into an artery to monitor blood pressure closely and draw blood samples. Complications can include bleeding at the insertion site, where blood may escape if the tube or nearby blood vessels are damaged. Infection is another risk if bacteria enter through the insertion site. Sometimes, the artery can become blocked or damaged, leading to decreased blood flow. Rarely, blood clots or air bubbles can form, causing complications. Proper care and monitoring help minimize these risks and ensure safe use of arterial lines.
