Comparative Fault
Comparative fault is a legal concept used to determine responsibility when multiple parties are partially to blame for an incident, such as a car accident. Instead of blaming only one person, the court assesses each party’s level of fault and assigns a percentage of responsibility. If you are found partly liable, your compensation or damages are reduced proportionally to your share of fault. For example, if you’re 30% responsible, your damages are reduced by 30%. This system ensures liabilities are shared fairly based on each party’s contribution to the incident.
