Comnenian period

The Comnenian period (1081–1185) refers to a notable era in Byzantine history, marked by the leadership of the Comnenus dynasty. Under emperors like Alexios I and Manuel I, the Byzantine Empire experienced military resurgence and territorial expansion. This time was characterized by efforts to stabilize the economy, strengthen the army, and revitalize trade. The period also saw significant cultural and artistic achievements, as well as increasing interactions with Western Europe, particularly during the Crusades. Despite its successes, the empire faced internal challenges and external threats that would later contribute to its decline.
