Community-based insurance

Community-based insurance (CBI) is a type of health coverage where members of a specific community pool their resources to share the risk of medical expenses. Usually organized and managed locally, CBI helps low-income or rural populations access healthcare services they might otherwise find unaffordable. Members pay small premiums, and when someone needs care, the costs are shared among the group. This approach fosters collective responsibility, promotes community participation, and improves health outcomes by increasing access and financial protection for members who might be excluded from mainstream insurance schemes.
