Communard

The Communards were members of the Paris Commune, a revolutionary government that briefly ruled Paris from March to May 1871. They were mostly working-class citizens and socialist activists who sought to establish a more egalitarian and democratic society after France's defeat in the Franco-Prussian War. The Communards aimed to implement social reforms, challenge traditional authority, and promote workers’ rights. Their uprising was ultimately suppressed by the French government, leading to a violent crackdown. The term "Communard" is used to describe participants and supporters of this short-lived but historically significant socialist experiment.
