Commonwealth Railways
Commonwealth Railways was an Australian government-owned railway operator established in 1917 to manage rail services across remote regions, particularly in Western Australia and the Northern Territory. It primarily facilitated freight and passenger transportation in areas where private companies were uninterested, supporting economic development and connectivity. In 1975, it merged with the State Rail Authority of South Australia to form Australia Western Railroad, marking the end of its independent operation. Today, its legacy includes key routes like the Indian Pacific, a transcontinental passenger train linking Sydney and Perth.
