Common European Sales Law (CESL)
The Common European Sales Law (CESL) was an optional legal framework developed by the European Union to simplify and unify rules for the sale of goods and digital content across member states. It aimed to make cross-border transactions within the EU more predictable and consumer-friendly by providing clear, consistent rules. While it offered a modern alternative to national laws, CESL was not adopted widely and is mainly used for specific contracts or pilot projects. Its goal was to improve legal certainty and facilitate easier trade within the EU’s digital and goods markets.
