Committee on the Safety of Medicines

The Committee on the Safety of Medicines (CSM) was a group of experts in the United Kingdom responsible for carefully evaluating the safety of medicines before they are approved for public use. They reviewed data on side effects and risks, providing recommendations to ensure medicines are safe for patients. The CSM played a key role in protecting public health by monitoring medicines and advising regulators. It was eventually replaced by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in 2005, which continues to oversee drug safety today.
