Combahee River Collective
The Combahee River Collective was a group of Black feminist activists active in the 1970s in the United States. They addressed the unique experiences and struggles faced by Black women, emphasizing the intersections of race, gender, class, and sexuality. The Collective is best known for its 1977 statement, which highlighted the need for a movement that advocated for the liberation of all marginalized people, not just focused on gender or race alone. Their work laid the foundation for modern intersectional feminism, advocating for social justice and equality across multiple layers of identity.
