Columbia Basin Project
The Columbia Basin Project is a large-scale irrigation system in southeastern Washington State that diverts water from the Columbia River via the Grand Coulee Dam. This water is used to irrigate around 670,000 acres of farmland, transforming arid land into productive agricultural areas. The project also supplies hydroelectric power and supports communities by providing water and energy. It was developed during the 20th century to boost agriculture and regional development, making previously dry land fertile and sustainable for farming and settlements.
