Colossi of Memnon

The Colossi of Memnon are two enormous statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III, located on the West Bank of Luxor, Egypt. Each statue stands about 18 meters (60 feet) tall and depicts the pharaoh seated on his throne. Built around 1350 BCE, they served as guardians for the tomb of the king. Over centuries, one statue was damaged, but in ancient times, it was said to produce mysterious sounds at dawn, possibly caused by temperature changes or wind. Today, they are important archaeological monuments, offering insight into Egypt’s grandeur and craftsmanship during the New Kingdom period.
