Color opponency

Color opponency is a theory explaining how our visual system perceives color. It suggests that our eyes process colors in pairs of opposite signals—like red versus green and blue versus yellow—so that when one color in the pair is stimulated, the other is inhibited. This mechanism helps us distinguish a wide range of hues and creates the sharp contrast we see in colors. Essentially, our brains interpret these opposing signals to produce the vibrant and nuanced color experiences in our vision.
